2-of-4 crosspoint switch handles USB 2.0 03-11-08

Maxim introduces the MAX4989, a bidirectional, 2-of-4, USB 2.0 crosspoint switch. This device switches any 2 of 4 USB pairs while supporting data rates up to 480Mbps, thus enabling multiple USB host devices to be switched simultaneously. To enable this performance, the MAX4989 features 5.0Ω (typ) on-resistance and low, 6.0pF (typ) on-capacitance switching architecture. Additionally, an integrated charge pump improves performance, providing the full rail-to-rail swing necessary to support Hi-Speed USB applications, making it also compatible with Original USB. To minimize power consumption, the device provides three control-logic inputs that can all be driven high or low to place the device in shutdown mode. Shutdown mode reduces the supply current to less than 0.5µA and places all switch terminals in high impedance. The chip operates from a single 2.7V to 5.5V supply, and is fully specified over the -40°C to +85°C extended temperature range. The device is available in a 3mm x 3mm 14-pin TDFN package. Prices start at $1.50 (1000-up, FOB USA).
