Microchip announces the MCP1603 - a 2 MHz, 500 mA switching regulator. This switcher provides adjustable and fixed output voltages, operating efficiency of up to 90%, and is available in Thin SOT-23 (TSOT-23) and 2 mm x 3 mm DFN packages. The device is dedicated for portable, handheld electronic devices. The switcher features a quiescent current of 45 μA, a standby current of 100 nA, under voltage lockout (UVLO), over-temperature and over-current protection and auto transition from PWM to PFM modes. With an input voltage range of 2.7V to 5.5V and either an adjustable output voltage range of 0.8V to 4.5V, or a fixed output voltage range between 1.2V and 3.3V, the MCP1603 switcher can cover the entire Li-Ion, Li-Polymer, NiCd and NiMH voltage range. The MCP1603 Evaluation Board demonstrates using the MCP1603 as a Buck switcher.
