Vishay announced a Power Metal Strip meter shunt resistor that offers 3-W power capability in the 5515 size package, with resistance values down to 100μΩ. The WSMS5515 meter shunt resistor features a proprietary processing technique that produces resistance values from 100μΩ to 500μΩ, which provide increased accuracy in current meter shunt applications for industrial and residential electronic power meters. Featuring a 4-terminal (Kelvin) connection design, the WSMS5515 features all-welded construction and a high power-to-resistor size ratio. The resistor offers inductance values of <5nH, a thermal EMF of <3μV/°C, and an excellent frequency response to 50MHz. The device is lead (Pb)-free and RoHS-compliant. Samples and production quantities of the new meter shunt resistor are available now, with a lead time of six to eight weeks for larger orders.
