Acquicor acquires Jazz Semiconductor 27-09-06

Acquicor Technology buys the privately held Jazz Semiconductor in an all-cash transaction valued at $260 million. Based in Newport Beach, California, Jazz Semiconductor is an independent wafer foundry primarily focused on specialty CMOS process technologies, including High Voltage CMOS, SiGe BiCMOS and RFCMOS for the manufacture of analog and mixed-signal semiconductor devices. Jazz was initially formed in March 2002 as a joint venture between The Carlyle Group and Conexant Systems. Acquicor is a company formed by Gilbert F. Amelio, Ellen M. Hancock and Steve Wozniak. Upon completion of the merger, Jazz Semiconductor will become a wholly owned subsidiary of Acquicor. Gilbert Amelio will continue in his role as the Chief Executive Officer and Chairman of the Board of Acquicor. Shu Li, President and Chief Executive Officer of Jazz Semiconductor since 2002, will continue in his role as Chief Executive Officer.
