Artificial intelligence: TU Dresden wins Games World Championship
31-07-06
A computer program developed by Faculty for Informatics of the TU Dresden won the Second World Championships for Universal Game Programs in Boston USA on the 19th July. In these championships, computers competed against each other in a series of games such as different variants of chequers or chess but also in games for one or more players such as halma. The computers were informed of the rules only shortly before the start. Thus, in a few minutes, they had to develop a suitable strategy for the game and apply this immediately. The first international competition for such systems took place last year in Pittsburgh. In this year’s second world championship within the scope of the American Congress for Artificial Intelligence, the Fluxplayer program developed by Stephan Schiffel and Prof. Michael Thielscher of the Institute for AI was pitted against 11 competitors and fetched the championship award of 10 000 Dollars.
