Conductive plastic shielding materials 13-06-05

Flame retardant

Chomerics has enhanced its range of PREMIER conductive plastic shielding materials with the introduction of non-halogenated flame retardant grades.

Rated to UL94 V-0, the new materials are available with three different levels of shielding performance. Designs with wall thicknesses down to 0.8mm can be achieved using the abrasion and corrosion resistant materials. The ability to include design features such as internal compartments means that a single PREMIER part can accommodate multiple logic and RF components in a single shield. Flame retardant versions are suitable for continuous use at 70ºC with excursions to 85ºC. Existing non-flame retardant variants are available with a continuous operating temperature range of up to 105ºC to provide a solution for extremely thermally demanding applications. Flame retardant versions are available in a choice of three compounds that give increasing levels of shielding performance. Basic performance is given by A220-FR, A230-FR delivers intermediate shielding, whilst A240-FR offers up to 85dB attenuation. The mechanical performance of the various materials is also different, with higher shielding performance versions being more rigid than lower attenuation grades.
