Philips announces a miniaturized, embedded DVB-T (Digital Video Broadcast – Terrestrial) receiver module for portable devices. This PDD2016 DVB-T receiver module can be provided with an optional embedded antenna. The software besides teletext functionality it also supports an Electronic Program Guide (EPG), as well as playback and record functions that can be used as a personal video recorder (PVR). To confirm if a DVB-T signal is available, a signal indicator shows the strength of the signal. With a low power consumption of less than one Watt it enables users to use digital terrestrial TV even up to 2.5 hours. Philips has partnered with AixSolve to provide the application software required to operate the DVB-T module on an Intel X-Scale based platform. The PDD2016 modules are scheduled for mass production in the second quarter of 2005. Customer samples are available now.
