Epcos has developed two new ferrite materials whose properties make them suitable for the power range typical of SMPS and current meters. N95 is distinguished by a flux density of 525 mT at 25 °C and 410 mT at 100 °C. A special feature is its power dissipation at 100 °C: it is 250 kW/m3 at 500 kHz and a flux density of 50 mT. It has an optimum operating frequency range of between 25 kHz and 500 kHz. Typical applications of N95 are power transformers in SMPS. This material is available in the E, ER and ETD cores. T36 is distinguished particularly by its high linearity and can thus be used in applications such as current meters. It has an initial permeability of 7000 and a flux density of 400 mT (25 °C). Typical operating frequencies are between 50 Hz and 100 kHz. It is available as a ring core. Both materials may also be supplied in customized designs.
