Fused capacitor protects against short circuit damage 29-03-06

The TBW solid tantalum capacitors from AVX incorporate an internal thin film fuse delivering safety, consistency, reliability, compactness and low ESR. Because of their inherent reliability, tantalum capacitors are increasingly specified for use in harsh operating conditions. However, in such applications, operating guidelines may be exceeded and devices may fail. For example, if excessive transients are prevalent there is a possibility that the device may overheat and even burn. This is exacerbated at high voltages where there is sufficient energy to overcome the natural self-healing properties of tantalum devices. The TBW fused solid state capacitors eliminate this possibility. With a capacitance range of between 4.7 and 47µF and a rated voltage up to 50V, TBW capacitors have an operating temperature range of between -55 and 125degC. Devices also comply with the low impedance requirement of MIL-PRF-55365 Weibull grading.
