According to information provided by the Verband der Leiterplattenindustrie [Association of circuit board industries] and the ZVEI-Fachverband Electronic Components and Systems, the turnover in the German circuit board industry in June 2005 was slightly below that of the same month of the previous year. The industry is generally happy with this. However, there is a strong decline in new orders. One reason for this is the large fire at the Schweizer Electronic in Schramberg, one of the largest circuit board manufacturers in Europe. The company had to return orders to customers or transfer them to other companies in Europe.. A part of these orders also went to companies outside Europe. Without this special influence, according to ZVEI, the Book-to-Bill ratio would be almost equalized. However, with a ratio of 0.71, a low point was reached that has not been equalled since 2001. Despite the fire, the number of employees has not been reduced. Meanwhile, production has largely been resumed. In the other companies, the number of employees increased slightly.
