At the membership meeting of the German Trade Association for Automation in the ZVEI, the chairman of the Measurement Technology and Process Automation Section, Michael Ziesemer presented a positive balance: “2008 will be a further good year for measurement technology and process automation with a growth of worldwide markets of 9 to 10 percent.” In the year 2007 the sector achieved a turnover of 15.4 bn Euro. As in the previous year, the drivers of this development are the oil and gas, metallurgy and mining, chemistry and pharmaceutical industries. The impulses for this arise especially from the Middles East, China, Russia and GIS, India and Latin America where the emphasis is on Brazil. According to ZVEI, business in Germany is “robust”. Below average growth is noted from the USA. “In 2009 we expect a slight weakening of growth but still an increase of our sales worldwide by 7 to 8 percent,” is Ziesemer’s forecast.
