Half-Duplex RS-485 Transceivers 12-03-07

Maxim introduces the MAX13485E/MAX13486E half-duplex RS-485 transceivers. The small footprint of these transceivers makes them ideal for space-constrained applications such as motor control and mobile sensors. Measuring 2mm x 2mm, the MAX13485E/MAX13486E save over 50% board space compared to existing RS-485 transceiver footprints. The MAX13485E/MAX13486E feature enhanced ESD protection, fail-safe circuitry, and hot-swap capability. The MAX13485E offers ±15kV ESD protection using the IEC 61000-4-2 Air-Gap Discharge Method, and both transceivers provide ±15kV ESD protection using the Human Body Model. The MAX13485E's slew-rate-limited drivers provide reduced EMI and operation in environments with high levels of radiated noise for error-free transmission up to 500kbps. The MAX13486E allows data rates up to 16Mbps. Additionally, these devices provide a 1/4-unit load receiver input impedance, allowing up to 128 transceivers on the bus. The MAX13485E/MAX13486E operate over the extended -40°C to +85°C temperature range, and they are available in an 8-pin µDFN or SO package. Pricing starts at $1.25 (1000-up, FOB USA).
