The WITI, in existence since 1989, is an professional network for women active in the field of technology. Now six women have been again admitted for the tenth time into the WITI Hall of Fame. Honoured were Sonja Bernhardt, chief executive officer, Thoughtware Australia; Barbara Bauer, vice president software engineering and development, Sun Microsystems; Sandra E. Burke, Ph.D, director of Cardiovascular Systems Research at Abbott; Melendy Lovett, president, Texas Instruments Educational & Productivity Solutions; Amparo Moraleda Martinez, IBM general manager, Spain, Portugal, Greece, Israel and Turkey and Neerja Raman, director, Imaging Systems Lab, HP Labs, HP.

 

Here some extracts from the nominations

 

Sonja Bernhardt a champion of IT within her home country and is the innovator behind results achieving women in science and technology groups across Australia which lead wide-scale programs that create professional and academic development opportunities, thus helping thousands of school students and hundreds of professionals within Australia's IT industry.

 

Barbara Bauer is known for spearheading several advanced projects that have redefined technology roadmaps, while also volunteering to serve as president for Girl’s Count, a non-profit Colorado-based coalition formed to promote mathematical, science and technology education among girl students.

 

Sandra E. Burke who is being honored for her research into drug-coated intravascular stents for the treatment of restenosis (the re-narrowing of arteries) – a cardiovascular device that promises a significant improvement for surgical procedures to heart patients. She is also actively involved in the company's networking groups Women Leaders in Action and Black Business Network.

 

Melendy Lovett the first woman in that company’s history to be named business President, and founder of the Women of Texas Instruments Fund, an organization that champions math, science and technology education opportunities for young women.

 

Amparo Moraleda Martinez who has been voted “The Most Valued Executive Woman” in Spain and among the top IT business leaders in EMEA.

 

Neerja Raman she leads her team in creating the strategic vision and technology for the company’s innovative imaging and printing products and services.
