Component housing as a test adapter variant
Weidmüller has created a housing concept with the name JACKPAC. Equipped with M12 connections, it is designed for high-class protection to IP 67/68. It can be used to advantage in mechanical and systems engineering as well as process automation. The high protection class of the component housing guarantees that individual electronic circuits can be implemented in harsh industrial environments. Switchgear cabinets and small distribution boards are not required. Boasting external dimensions of just 83mm x 36mm x 14mm (length x width x height), JACKPAC component housings are compact. The internal dimensions are approx. 39mm x 29mm x 12mm (length x width x height). Made of PBT (polybutylene terephthalate) component housings are grey in colour (RAL 7032), with flammability class UL 94 VO; that means it is self-extinguishing and burning material does not drip. With a high protection class to IP 6X, JACKPAC component housings epitomise cost-efficient and safe ‘packaging’. By design, various functions can be integrated into them. In addition, the housings can be optionally equipped with different connection systems depending on the application, for example, M8, USB or RJ 45 connections. Although deviating from the high protection class, the following example demonstrates the numerous possibilities the housing concept has to offer: with an integrated PCB, the component housing can be utilised as a test adapter. The test adapters can be looped into the sensor and actuator lines or screwed directly onto inputs or outputs of SAI distributor. The measuring or test instrument is then connected to the PCB terminal LSF-SMT, which can be accessed at the side of the test adapter. JACKPAC test adapters are thus able to simplify test and troubleshooting tasks. Weidmüller will utilise the new component housing as a basis for its JACKPAC family of products. This presently includes the switch amplifier, the overvoltage protection module, and the passive isolator.
