The 8-core FastConnect installation cable from Siemens Automation and Drives is designed with AWG22 cores shielded in pairs and suitable for global use thanks to UL approval. Using the FastConnect stripping tool, the installation cable is cut to the correct length, the cable shield exposed, and the cable then connected to the FastConnect modular outlet in one step. The modular outlet is also designed especially for industrial purposes and fast assembly. Installed in a metal housing in degree of protection IP40, it is mounted on the wall or on a DIN rail. The insulation displacement contacts, coded with the colors of the installation cable cores, are operated by finger pressure without the need for any special tools. The outlet has an integral strain relief and rugged shield contact to the installation cable.

From the FastConnect modular outlet, the Class E patch cable connects to the terminal device in accordance with ISO/IEC 11801. The outlet is equipped with a plug-in insert for different uses of the cable. One of the inserts is designed for 100 megabit/s networking and offers connections for two devices. A second uses the cable for a 1,000-megabit/s connection. If requirements change, the relevant insert is replaced without re-wiring and without affecting the connected installation cable. The third insert is suitable for hybrid cables that combine data and 24-volt DC supply voltage. This is required when connecting widely separated network nodes, such as with an industrial wireless LAN access point mounted in a factory ceiling.
