Industrial LCDs with all-round view 12-06-06

A new 10.4 inch and 12.1 inch industrial displays from Sharp feature Advanced Super View (ASV) Technology. This means that the TFT panels have a par-ticularly wide 160 to 170 degree horizontal and vertical viewing angle and provide excellent clarity from any viewing position. The LCDs can be positioned at all viewing heights both in horizontal and vertical format thanks to the wide viewing angle. The high luminance of up to 380 cd/m² and powerful contrast ratio of up to 800:1 mean that the panels provide excellent clarity. The displays are perfectly visible from any angle. Not only can the LCDs be positioned at eye level but they can also, for example, be installed as a monitoring display directly below the ceiling or as a shelf label at knee height.

Since they can be used in many different ways, the new industrial LCDs are suitable for a wide range of applications, ranging from medical use to public display systems and industrial control and automation systems. An additional advantage is the improved flexibility of the product design. Since the display is clearly visible from any position thanks to the very wide azimuthal viewing angle, engineers do not have to account for any preferred viewing direc-tion when placing the panels. This gives additional flexibility in terms of positioning the display modules. Sharp's various display types also offer a high level of mechanical compatibility, which means that applications can be diversified or modified more quickly and at significantly lower cost. If, for example, the customer requires a panel with a broader temperature range for an outdoor application, a Strong2 module of the same size can be subsequently installed without the need to adapt the mechanical design, which would be costly and time-consuming.

In accordance with industry requirements, the new TFT-LCD panels will be avail-able on a long-term basis. Prototypes of the two new industrial displays featuring ASV technology are now available. The start of series pro-duction is scheduled for the third quarter of 2006.
