Innovation prize of the German economy for Cairos localizing system 25-01-06

The Cairos Technologies AG in Karlsbad receives this year’s Innovation Prize of the German economy in the "Start-up” category. Cairos presented a wireless-supported localizing system that is noteworthy for its planned application in soccer. A transmitter integrated in the soccer ball shows the ball path to the impartial observer: The sender transmits signals up to 2000 times per second; aerials positioned about the playing field receive these signals and a central computer calculates the actual position of the ball. If, for instance, the ball has crossed the goal line completely, then a special wrist watch gives a signal to the referee. After the FIFA technical committee approved its use at the FIFA U17 World Championships in Peru, the World Soccer Association FIFA will decide at the start of March 2006 on the use of this system at the World Championships. The Fraunhofer Institute for Integrated Circuits had developed the Cairos system under contract to Cairos Technologies AG in a research time of five years. The Cairos localizing system is in the introductory phase and will probably be implemented by the middle of 2006 in all markets. Turnovers of several millions are expected in the year 2006.
