National Instruments announced new driver software that delivers Controller Area Network (CAN) technology to handheld PDAs. By using the new CAN for PocketPC software with the NI LabVIEW PDA Module, engineers can create CAN applications and then easily download them to PocketPC targets. This increases the flexibility of test applications that require smaller, more portable platforms, such as mounting the PDA on the dash of a vehicle in automotive testing. The new CAN for PocketPC software also offers portable CAN data logging that is especially useful for portable monitoring and control of CAN devices on the factory floor and in-vehicle data acquisition. Engineers also can use CAN for PocketPC to implement diagnostic applications, create tools for service technicians and communicate using the NI PCMCIA-CAN card. With NI-CAN interfaces, engineers can automate measurements in automotive, medical and embedded applications. NI-CAN interfaces for PXI, PCI and PCMCIA integrate with data acquisition, image acquisition and motion control modules by sharing timing and triggering lines. NI-CAN bus interfaces comply fully with the physical and electrical specifications outlined in ISO 11898, and the high-level application programming interface (API) simplifies development for synchronization or basic network communication.
