Giving designers a source of small-footprint capacitors for mobile electronic systems, Vishay announced the release of a family of leadframeless tantalum capacitors with face-down terminations.The 298D MicroTan surface-mount capacitors provide capacitance values from 1 μF at 16 V to 47 μF at 4 V in the 0603 and 0805 footprints. Dedicated for signal processing and power management applications in mobile phones, digital cameras, and MP3 devices, the 298D devices offer a capacitance tolerance of ±20%, voltage ratings from 4 VDC to 16 VDC and 0.01 CV DC leakage values. The devices are rated to operate over the temperature range of –55° C to +85° C, and can be operated to +125° C with voltage derating. Offering lead (Pb)-free and RoHs-compliant terminations, the 298D capacitors are provided in 8-mm tape and reel packaging available per EIA-481-1 and reeling per the IEC 286-3.7 inch [178 mm] standard. Samples of the 298D MicroTan tantalum capacitors are available now. Production quantities will be available in June 2006 with lead time of eight weeks for larger orders.
