Marvell buys Intel business segment 28-06-06

For approximately 600 m US$, the Marvell Technology Group has taken over the “Communications and Application Processors” segment from Intel. The transaction is scheduled to be completed within five months. In this segment, Intel employs approximately 1400 employees and has developed the Xscale processors for mobile and embedded applications and PXA9xx communication processors. A large number of the employees will be taken over by Marvell. Both companies have been working together for the past six years. Intel will draw the Xscale licences, which will continue to be used by the company, direct from ARM.
