Rayovac wants to change its name and be called Spectrum Brands. In April the shareholders will be asked to give their approval. The company was founded in 1906 as French Battery Company and changed its name in 1930 to Rayovac. It has been active in the traditional battery field for many years. In 2002 a Joint Venture with Varta was entered into and later Brazilian and Chinese battery companies were bought. The core business was extended in 2003 with the takeover of Remington which offers razor and hair cutting appliances. At the start of 2005, a manufacturer of garden accessories was added with United Industries. In total, Rayovac offers products from seven categories and, with the change of name plans further expansion of the portfolio.
