OmniVision, a developer of digital imaging solutions, announced the completion of its acquisition of Aurora Systems, a privately-held company incorporated in California. Aurora is a supplier of LCoS (Liquid Crystal on Silicon) devices for use in mobile projection applications and high definition home theater projection systems. OmniVision acquired all outstanding shares of Aurora for aggregate consideration of approximately $5.0 million.
Aurora was founded in 1997 and began operations in 1998. Aurora introduced a succession of three panel LCOS products and today offers 0.7 inch and 0.55 inch products in both 720P and 1080P resolution for high definition projection solutions. Aurora also offers single panel phase modulators for telecom and holographic projection (diffractive) applications. These solutions include 0.55 inch 720P and 0.55 inch 1080P phase modulators and offer excellent image quality via improved diffractive angles and multi-level holograms. The company is a private California corporation headquartered in San Jose.
Revenues of OmniVision for the fiscal year 2009 were $507.3 million, GAAP net loss was $37.3 million.
