Toshiba Electronics Europe has announced the TMP86FP24F, a 8-bit microcontroller that integrates 48Kbyte Flash memory and LCD direct-drive capabilities. Designers may choose the Flash-based device for development and move to a mask-programmed equivalent in production. The device includes a 24-segment x 4-com LCD controller, 8-channel 10-bit A/D converter and two counter-timers. To allow its use in power-sensitive portable environments, the device’s TLCS-870/C CPU core can operate at voltages as low as 1.8V (at 4.2MHz) and 2.7V at 16 MHz. These capabilities are augmented by a five-channel key-on wake-up function to allow the device to be activated in an appropriate fashion from any of its nine low-power states. The low power states consist of three IDLE modes; a SLOW mode; two SLEEP modes; and a STOP mode.
In addition to the TLCS-870/C core and Flash memory, the device includes 2Kbyte RAM. Serial communications are via UART or SPI-compliant SEI (Serial Encoder Interface). The core itself offers 731 basic operations and can accommodate 19 interrupt sources: five external and 14 internal. Four of the internal interrupts are non-maskable. The TMP86FP24F is available in 80-pin
