The winners of the Best Paper and the three Young Engineer Awards were announced at the PCIM Europe Conference which started on the 27th May. The Best Paper Award is granted for a current application in the field of Automotive and Industry. The Young Engineer Awards go to authors up to 35 years of age who have made excellent contributions. The PCIM Best Paper Award was given to Stephane Lefebvre, SATIE Laboratoire Ecole Normale Supérieure de Cachan in France for the article “Investigations on ageing of IGBT transistors under repetitive short circuit operation”. The equally valuable PCIM Young Engineer Awards were awarded to Luc Lowinsky, LAPLACE Research Laboratory, France, for the contribution “3 MVAR Single Phase STATCOM based on AC Chopper Topology”, to Matthias Neumeister, Siemens AG, Germany, for the article “Investigation of Surge Current Capability of SiC MPS Diodes” and to Marco Bock, also of Siemens AG, Germany, for his article “Methods for Path Decomposition of Redundant CNC-Axes”.
Besides the presentation of their contributions at the PCIM Europe 2008 Conference and the publication in the conference papers, the winners will receive a cash prize and will be entitled to take part in the PCIM China 2009 in Shanghai.
