Photo interrupter for industry handhelds and CE portables 24-08-07

With the launch of the GP1S296HCPSF, Sharp Microelectronics is presenting a photo interrupter that measures 2.5 x 1.8 x 1.9 mm. The housing volume for the sub-miniature photo interrupter is merely half that of the technically comparable precursor model. Sharp has achieved this level of miniaturisation by further developing the company’s generic Double Transfer Mold process for manufacturing the components. This also includes reducing the registrable pitch from 0.3 to 0.2 mm. This means that the GP1S296HCPSF is dedicated for any applications where a slim product design requires a low mounting height and limited mounting space at the same time. The photo interrupter is particularly suitable for portable applications, e.g. as a sensor for controlling auto focus and zoom drives in digital pocket cameras. As it can be operated in a broad temperature range from -25 to +85°C, the device is also suitable for switching applications in demanding industrial environments and for industry handhelds and CE portables. Samples are available , series production is scheduled to begin in October 2007.
