The turnover with semiconductors in Germany in April 2006, according to ZVEI – Zentralverband Elektrotechnik- und Elektronikindustrie [Central Association for Electro-technology and Electronic Industries] was the same as for the previous month but with substantial fewer orders received. Compared with April 2005 the growth was 3%. In March the turnover dropped by 1% compared to the same month of the previous year but in February it rose by 4%. Cumulated over the first four months of the year 2006, the market in Germany stagnated compared to the same time period of the previous year. The recently much weaker Dollar, according to the branch association, was the main cause of this stagnation. If this trend in the foreign exchange rate continues, then further damping influences can be expected. Calculated in Dollars, however, Germany is following the improved growth of Europe. For the whole of 2006 a medium single-figure growth is expected. The Book-to-Bill ratio, an indicator for the medium-term trend, has become worse in the past month to 0.99.
