Step-down converter for a single-cell lithium-ion/polymer battery

By delivering 500mA in a tiny, 2 x 2 x 0.55mm package, AnalogicTech’s AAT1120 step-down converter allows designers to build small, thin systems. In its 8-pin STDFN package, the AAT1120 occupies 4mm2 of PCB area. Designed for systems powered by a single-cell lithium-ion/polymer battery, 5V or 3.3V VBUS, the AAT1120 operates over a 2.7V to 5.5V input voltage range. Output voltage is adjustable from 0.6V to VIN and supports 100% duty cycle low dropout operation. A 96% efficiency level extends battery life. The converter also offers a 30µA no load quiescent current.
A 1.5MHz switching frequency permits the use of small external components while keeping switching losses low. To ensure device integrity, the AAT1120 features over-temperature and current-limit protection. Soft-start control limits input surge current and eliminates output voltage overshoot. The AAT1120 is specified across the -40 to 85 degrees C temperature range and is available in a Pb-free, 8-pin, 2 x 2mm STDFN package.
