InCircuit-/OnChip-Emulation meets LabVIEW

Helmut Kindermann

Erol Simsek

Rahman Jamal

The emulation and debug technology of iSYSTEM is to be integrated into the graphic standard development environment LabVIEW from National Instruments. This is the aim of a collaboration of both companies on the technology level. Up to now, both parties occupied separate sectors in the design process: iSYSTEM was responsible for the software development in the implementation and integration of software and hardware and National Instruments for the tests of all types from modules to system tests. With the embedment of debugging and emulation software in LabVIEW, the software development and system tests can be completed with one piece of software. Under the name iConnect, there will be a virtual instrument for LabVIEW with which one will be able to remotely control the In-Circuit/On-Chip emulators of iSYSTEM from LabVIEW. Also Controller Structures in FPGAS can be emulated in this way from JTAG because it all functions over standard interfaces. Thus, the user obtains a desktop that links the classical development environment with the LabVIEW Front Panel. With the help of this solution, it is now not only possible to test all parameters of a developed control device from outside but, so to say, they can be viewed from the inside. These functions are also asked for in automation technology, which is why iSYSTEM is also expecting interest from this sector. The official presentation of the completed solution will take place at the VIP 2005 of National Instruments (27th to 28th April) in Fürstenfeldbruck.
