Erni Electronics adds a series of vertical D-Sub connectors equipped with THR (Thru-Hole Reflow) termination. This functionality complements the existing line of right angle and vertical D-Sub components with press-fit or SMT termination. These reflow-capable THR components can be processed economically within the SMT manufacturing line (in-line production), eliminating steps previously required in the production process (such as wave soldering, selective soldering, or press-fit). The male and female vertical D-Sub THR connectors are available in module heights of 6.0, 6.3, and 9.0 mm, in accordance with DIN 41652 and CECC 75301-802, and are offered with 9, 15, 25 or 37 pins. The contacts are gold plated in the mating area and tin plated in the termination area.
Creepage distance and clearance is specified at 1.2 mm. Designed for fully automatic placement, the D-Sub THR connectors are supplied on SMT-compatible trays or in tape-and-reel packaging. A pick and place pad ensures easy and reliable pick-up with the vacuum pipette. The insulating body and the pick and place pad are made of high-temperature-resistant thermoplastic, which is ideal for soldering with all lead-free SMT soldering processes. A metal mounting bracket reliably relieves the strain caused by mating, removal, and cable handling. The THR D-Subs are available with the familiar locking hardware, which includes a through hole, a nut or a locking bolt. The locking hardware is integrated, and features anti-rotation protection and ESD-resistant pre-mounting.
The layout for the THR D-Subs is compatible with the press-fit versions, which allows an transition from existing modules, with press-fit or dip-soldered D-Subs, to the SMT/THR process. Depending on the placement equipment being used, versions can be created with or without "assembly force." Tape-and-reel placement without force is suited to processing with standard placement machines, whereas placement from a tray is more appropriate for manual placement involving assembly force. Furthermore these connectors are available with different pin lengths (1.7, 2.7 or 5.3 mm), so they can also be used to address all types of wave-soldering applications.
